John 8:32

Ah the truth..... "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Amen sister.

Book CLub

I have the most wonderful book club. We are an interesting group of women. Our ages range from 20 to 58 and we seem to have so much in common hen in reality all we share are books, love, and friendship. Several of the women are music majors so they have that in common. ON our last outing we went to the movies to see the Lightening Thief. I wonder what they thought when seven women of varying ages went to see this movie. We were the only ones in the theater and that is fortunate because we talked the entire movie about the lack of meat from the book.

Our group meets weekly and celebrates the books we are reading. We eat, talk, laugh, and share. What fun! I wish I had a group like this one my whole life.

The Sea of Monsters

I copied this description from Shelfari..."Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodge ball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed. In this fresh, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief , Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family -- one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke." - Rick Riordan
. I wanted to reread this description because Riordan did not have the same thoughts in mind as I did as I read. INteresting to hear what an author has in his mind that the book is about and then seek to see your own thoughts. It is an excellent broad message about the book but it leaves out the important parts to me. (Which I assume is a wise move or there would be no reason to bu or read the book.)

Percy and the Olympians

Percy has taken us on another voyage. Our book club is on book two for next week. This week we are discussing the similarities and differences in the movie and The Lightening Thief. Actually the only true similarieties are the characters' names. The book and movie are so different it is like we did not read the same book the screen writers read. I wonder if the author had any input into the movie. I realize they could not cover the whole book in a movie but they should at least visit the same places or have the same quest in mind. I could not believe they left the oracle out.

Percy was still a demigod but that is it. He did have the same friends but their reasons for the quest were so totally different so it changed the plot line. The movie was okay if you have not read the book but do not see if you have ventured into the literary element.

Sadly

Our book club lost our friend Steve last month. Life is so hard sometimes. He brought most people joy who knew him. I know the Lord is happy to have him home.

Percy Jackson

Our group went to see the movie this week. We are discussing the comparison and contrast of the book and the movie at this weeks meeting. I love my book club.
